Arrest Made in Several Burglaries & Stolen Vehicle Report |
|
*** PRESS RELEASE *** Early this morning, officers of the Kiel Police Department responded to multiple calls from citizens reporting several crimes which occurred at various residential properties located on the west side of the city. A female resident reported to officers that someone had burglarized her home while she slept upstairs sometime overnight. The resident told police that someone forcibly entered her home and upon doing so, stole food items from her kitchen, her car keys, and money from her purse. Two other residents reported that someone had entered their vehicles during which cash, compact discs, and other items were stolen from their vehicles parked in their driveway. Another resident reported that someone had entered his garage and had stolen his vehicle. The truck was stolen out of his unlocked garage and driven around before it was returned. When the truck was returned, it was forcibly parked in the garage resulting in damage to the truck but also to another vehicle parked in the garage. Yet another resident in the same area reported waking up to sounds of someone trying to enter her home through a back door off the rear porch. Her dog scared off the intruder. All of these incidents occurred between 1200am and 3am this morning in the City of Kiel. At approximately 9:40am, I took a 20 year old male from the City of Kiel into custody on a charge of trespass. I transported the man back to our police department for questioning which resulted in the man being arrested for committing the crimes that occurred earlier this morning (as listed above). The man has since been taken to the Manitowoc County jail where he is being held on felony charges related to burglary and for operating a vehicle without owner’s consent. This investigation is ongoing and more work needs to be completed before the entire report can be forwarded to the Manitowoc County District Attorney's Office. I anticipate that there will be additional charges filed including misdemeanor charges of theft and trespass. Should you need more information or if you have any questions, please contact me directly. Thank you. Dave Funkhouser Chief of Police
