| The Kiel Police Department currently
has three (3) Dodge Charger police vehicles in service. Two of
the Chargers (2010 & 2008 models) are fully equipped police vehicles
and serve as our primary patrol vehicles. Our oldest police
vehicle (2006) is minimally equipped and serves as a back-up vehicle
for use when needed for training, special events, and/or when one of
the primary squads is being serviced.
Each of our Dodge Charger police vehicles have the
5.7L V-8 HEMI engine, which is equipped with a Multi-Displacement
System (MDS). The system shuts down 4 of the 8 cylinders
during normal driving conditions, conserving fuel while still
providing exceptional performance when needed in emergency
situations. In addition, the Chargers also have the Electronic
Stability Program (ESP) which alternates power distribution for the
rear drive wheels when operating on wet, snow, and/or icy road
conditions. With snow tires on the rear drive wheels, our
Chargers handle very well, even in deep snow. Not as well as a
4X4 vehicle, but better than many other police vehicles. The
ESP allows us excellent maneuverability even in the slickest road
conditions.
The exceptional acceleration, braking, and
cornering abilities make the Dodge Charger excel in a city
environment, allowing our officers to quickly and safely maneuver to
emergency calls. Overall, our police department is quite
pleased with the performance and durability of the Dodge Charger as
a police vehicle. |
