Employment Information

The City of Kiel Police Department has immediate openings for two (2) part-time patrol officer positions subject to city council approval. We are also establishing an eligibility list for future hiring. Our part-time officers assist and supplement our full-time staff with patrol duties and/or special event functions including bicycle patrol. This is a joint hiring process with the City of New Holstein Police Department. If you have already applied for the New Holstein position, you will be automatically included in the City of Kiel’s hiring process.

Minimum Qualifications: U.S. citizen; Minimum age - 20; WI Driver license; Good driving record; Good physical condition; Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification; High school diploma; 60 college credits; Ability to possess a firearm; No felony convictions; No domestic abuse convictions; Vision correctable to 20/20; Good verbal and written communication skills; React quickly and effectively to stressful situations; Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems; Clear and concise speech; Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously; Ability to perform essential functions of this position; Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment; must commit to working a minimum of 200 hours annually

Hourly Pay Rate (2013) Start: $15.84 / After 6-months: $16.72 / After 1-year: $17.60

Hiring Process: Successful applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have properly submitted their completed documents will be invited to participate in a written testing process to occur in May. All applicants must take the written test. Transferred test scores will not be accepted. Candidates with the top scores on the written test will be invited to participate in the interview process. Anticipated start date for new hires will be June or July 2013.

College Credit Requirement: The “60 college credits” required are due at time of hire, but are not required to apply. Applicants graduating or obtaining 60 credits in May or June of 2013 are eligible to apply for this position.
