Kiel P.D. Reports Quieter Weekend for the 2007 Kiel Picnic & Parade

Kiel Police Chief Dave Funkhouser reported that KPD had a much quieter weekend than last year during the 2007 Kiel Picnic and Parade which the Chief attributes to several factors including a more visible police presence both in the park and downtown after the picnic closed.  "We had a lot of officers worlking to address any problems that came up.  We had officers on foot, on the police bike, and in squad cars covering a lot of areas all weekend long.  We were all very tired by the time the picnic closed on Sunday night."

The Chief said that overall, people who attended the events this year were very cooperative.  "We had a lot of people in the park and in the downtown area afterwards having a 'good time,' but overall, they were much more cooperative and polite than last year.  We gave a lot of warnings again this year and thankfully, the majority of the people we had contact with heeded our warnings and altered their behavior."

The Chief also praised the Kiel Picnic and Parade Committees for working with the police department in the planning stages to address concerns the police department had in a number of areas.  "Our communication with the picnic and parade staff was fantastic.  These are very dedicated people and we worked hand in hand with them to make these events successful for everyone.  It was good teamwork by all involved."
