Shop with a cop

The Shop with a Cop program takes children who might not have such a bright holiday season, due to family problems or recent hardships, to a great party with Santa and then onto a shopping trip at Wal-Mart where each child is allowed to purchase $100.00 worth of items.

This program helps to build an important positive relationship between the children and law enforcement, as well as help during a trying and stressful time of the year for families.  Each child is teamed up with a uniformed officer throughout the evening.  We try to encourage the children to buy the essential items first (coats, shoes, needed clothing), before hitting the toy aisles.  They also may surprise us with their generosity by using some of their money to purchase a gift for a family member.  The program costs the children nothing.

We have received an outpouring of support for this program from the local business community, as well as local citizens.  The money used to provide this program for the children came from donations and fund-raisers put on by the police department.

If you have any questions regarding this program, contact the program coordinators, Officer Jim Blanke and Officer Joseph Jeanty at 920-894-2211 or by email by clicking on their name.

Shop with a Cop Event on 12-12-09

On 12-12-09, the Kiel Police Department held it’s fourth annual Shop with a Cop day with 19 of our local children.  After meeting at Wal-Mart in Chilton, the 19 kids teamed up with a uniformed officer and were able to spend $100 on whatever they wanted for Christmas.  In addition to purchasing items for themselves, all of the children also purchased gifts for various family members.

After shopping, a party was held at the Kiel Community Center.  All of the gifts purchased were wrapped.  After that was completed, the kids were treated to pizza, cookies, and soda.  Santa showed up as well and the kids were able to ask Santa for the things they forgot to buy.

In addition to Kiel Police Department officers, members of the Calumet County Sheriff’s Department, Chilton Police Department, and New Holstein Police Department also shopped with the kids.

Riverview Restaurant Fundraiser on 05-26-07

On 05-26-07, the Kiel police officers held their 2nd annual Riverview Fundraiser. From 6AM until 1PM, the officers served the customers of the restaurant, serving coffee and clearing tables. Due to the generosity of the waitstaff of the restaurant, they agreed to donate half of the tips generated that day to the Shop with a Cop. The owners of the Riverview Restaurant also made a very generous donation to the program. We would like to thank the owners and staff of the restaurant for agreeing to hold the fundraiser again this year.
