Arson Arrests Follow Investigation into Railroad Bridge Fire

During the early morning hours on Saturday, September 8, 2007, patrol officers from the City of Kiel discovered that the train trestle over the Sheboygan River which is located just West of Hingiss Park was burning.

Less than a week later, on Friday, September 14, 2007, investigators of the Kiel Police Department interviewed suspects that had been developed regarding the bridge fire.

As a result of our investigation, three (3) juveniles will be referred to Manitowoc County juvenile authorities on charges of Arson for their involvement in starting the fire that severely damaged the railroad bridge.

The juveniles, a 16 year old girl, an 11 year old boy, and an 11 year old girl are all from Kiel and all three juveniles were released to their parents after questioning.

We are relieved that we have been able to not only determine the cause of the fire, but that we were also able to determine the identities of the people responsible for starting it.

Officers Joseph Jeanty and Jeremy Kamp of the Kiel Police Department did an outstanding job investigating this case for our community.
