Calling Cards Donated to Local Military Personnel

On April 18, 2006, calling cards valued at $200.00 were presented to three area military personnel due to ship out to Iraq on April 22.  The funds used to purchase the cards were raised by selling surplus equipment found during a recent cleaning and overhaul of a room in the police department.  The equipment sold consisted of 1950's era civil defense equipment including cots and wool blankets.  These items were provided to the city in the 1950's by the federal government when the city hall building was designated as a nuclear fallout shelter.
