| At approximately 8:30AM on Saturday, December 8th,
2007, I was notified that our Police, Fire, and EMS communications with
the Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center were no longer operational.
I immediately activated our back up dispatch system located within the
Kiel Police Department and qualified members of our department were
called into emergency service to staff our local dispatch console.
911 communication lines were not affected by the problem, which has been
identified as a disruption in fiber optic communication lines which
connect Kiel Emergency Services with Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch.
Our back up dispatch system here in the City of Kiel worked as designed
and as such there was little, if any, disruption to dispatch services
for our citizens. The problems have been fixed and our emergency
dispatching returned to normal operations at approximately 2:00AM Sunday
morning. I am quite proud of the staff here at the Kiel Police
Department for their quick response in addressing the problem and the
professional manner by which it was handled on all levels, including the
response by Manitowoc County's dispatch and technical staff. |
