Kiel Police Department Officially Participating In "A Child Is Missing" Alert Program

The Kiel Police Department recently announced that it is now a participating agency in a program called, "A Child is Missing" (ACIM).  This is a wonderful program that assists law enforcement agencies in locating not only missing children, but also the elderly and/or people with disabilities who have wandered off or have otherwise been reported missing.

When an officer responds to a call of this type, after gathering information, they contact ACIM's 24 hour toll free number and provide the data technician information on the missing child/person.  The technician then selects a search grid area using satellite mapping and a recorded message is generated with information about the missing person/child.

Once an area has been selected, calls are made to residential and business telephones in the search area playing the recorded message to alert citizens of the missing person/child and also asking them to assist in looking for the child/person.  The calls go out at a rate of 1,000 calls every 60 seconds and the program is responsible for locating over 240 missing people nationwide.
