Kiel Softball Team Beats the New Holstein Team in the 1st Annual "Guns & Hoses" Softball Game

On 08-19-06, the first ever softball game between the New Holstein police and firefighters vs. the Kiel police and firefighters took place at Kiwanis Park in New Holstein.  Subsequent games will be alternately played in each city.

The game was set up as a charity fundraiser with the hosting city deciding on their charity.  Money was raised through a brat fry with the proceeds going to the family of Green Bay firefighter Arnie Wolff, who was killed fighting a house fire the week prior to the game.

After some quick warm-ups, the game began at high noon with the Kiel team coming out on top 6-3.  Each team was coached by their respective mayor.  Umpiring services were conducted by Mark Sherry and Mike Mathes, Tri-County News writers for their respective cities.  Just prior to the game a side-bet was placed between the two mayors.  Each agreed that the mayor of the losing team would be the chauffer for the winning team's mayor in the winner's summer parade.  Look for New Holstein Mayor Ron Karrels to be driving around Mayor Werdeo in Kiel's 2007 parade.

The game for the 2007 season will take place in Kiel sometime this summer and we'll be trying for 2 in a row.
